New Year, New Wines!

The new year is a perfect time to try new wines. Between cold weather, snow and the lack of daylight, who wants to be outside, anyway?

Dominique's got a great look at some fantastic value wines, as well as some triple point selections to make your winter nights much more enjoyable...

Get your Santa on in the Fine Wine Room

Tis the season for some really fine win, and if you haven't ventured into our fine wine room in a while (or ever!), it's time.

Here are some stand-out selections that make really great fits and turn special meals into really memorable ones

Picks, Picks & More Picks

The holiday season is upon us, and the store is full of every kind of wine or spirit or cider or mead to give and receive!

How to choose wines for every occasion from a special gift to a social gathering to a lazy dinner at home?

A Week of Wine

What a week for wine! November 15 is International Zinfandel Day, and November 16 is the release of Beaujolais Nouveau.

And then, of course, Thanksgiving is just about a week away - and that's a wine occasion, for sure!

International Tempranillo Day

It's a fine time for Spanish Wine!

Tempranillo, in fact. Because Thursday, November 9, is International Tempranillo Day, and what better way to celebrate than by indulging in a bottle - or two or three. !Muy Bien!

October Wineology Wrapup

On the wine side, Dave and I wrapped up Wineology classes for 2023. All the classes were full, and we so appreciate everyone's support and enthusiasm.

Some stand-out bottles from the classes include...

Hello Force & Grace

It's always an exciting time in the store when we get new wines from winemakers who are industry leaders.

Joseph Carr is one of those leaders, progressing from wine enthusiast to sommelier to wine industry executive before founding Joseph Carr winery and launching Josh Cellars in 2005.

Happy Fall!

Happy fall one and all! This time of year is a free-for-all where wine is concerned.

It gets warm enough for crisp cold whites, or roses; it gets dark earlier, which makes lighter-bodied reds perfect for outdoor evenings; and there's that bigger red wine feeling in the air, too. What a great time of year.

Triple Point Summer Wines

Don't you love when you discover a great wine and it's also a great value? There are many of them in the store, it's true, and the current line-up of Triple Point wines is no exception.

Saluti to Ruffino

August may have been without Dave's and my Wednesday night Wineology classes but it wasn't without an opporunity to learn about and try some amazing wines.

On August 8, Exit 9 welcomed Catarina Corvino from Ruffino, who poured some classic stand-outs from this iconic producer.

Uncommon Whites and Summer Delights

Last week's Wineology class was "Uncommon Whites and Summer Delights." Wow, did Dave select some lovely white wines for the class to taste!

Summertime Wines

Summer is officially here, and Dominique has you covered in her latest On the Wine Side with a look at some wines to help ring in the change of season.

Summer 2023 Kickoff

Memorial Day has come and gone, and that means we're in the (unofficial) first weeks of summer!

In this edition of On the Wine Side Dominique discusses and dissects the perfect summer wines to keep in your home.

The Summer of Hunuc

It's celebration season - weddings, graduations, showers, NBA and Stanley Cup Finals, the Triple Crown, Father's Day on the horizon - so many occasions to share wines with family and friends.

Dominique's got you covered with this week's entry, taking a look at our new line of Argentinian wines!

Hello Spring!

Hello, Spring! At this transition time of year, it's as useful to clean your palate as it is your closets or your yard. Bring in something fresh. There are lots of choices here at Exit 9 Wine & Liquor Warehouse.

Here are some suggestions.

Triple Point Winners

I took a closer look at the current selection of Triple Point wines, and I was very pleasantly surprised. There's something for everyone in the mix, from big, dry reds to crisp, lively whites to cider and even a sweet sparkler.

Not only are you guaranteed some delicious choices, Club Card members earn three times the points on these offerings!

What Now?

It's a funny sort of "now what" time of year. The Super Bowl is over. Valentine's Day is history. And there are still nearly two weeks left in February.

Doldrums? Not if you enjoy wine. The truth is that any day, any season, any reason is worthy of the exploration of wine, which is a great way to keep the doldrums at bay.

Port - A Fireside Sipper

It was disappointing to cancel the Wineology class on ports that was scheduled for January 25...

Alas. Here's a summary of the class with the selection of ports. There are still plenty of wintery nights ahead that are perfect for these quintessential "fireside sippers."

Hello 2023

Hello 2023, and hello January.

For those of us in upstate, New York, the next few months can feel long and gloomy. On the Wine Side, it's time to think sunny thoughts about far-away lands where grapes are ripening to produce sun-drenched wines. Australia is just the place!

Out with 2022, in with 2023

It's such a treat for us to share wine recommendations with you any time of the year, but through the holidays especially, when a great bottle of wine can help define a gathering.

For New Year's Eve it will be bubbly!

Highly Rated for a Reason

With the holidays in high gear, the pressure is on to choose a nice bottle of wine for a gift or a party. Don't panic!

Our "highly rated" rack of wines in the middle of the store is the perfect place to look for selections from around the world that are sure to please. Here are just a few of the standout selections...

The Story of Tarapaca

Biodiversity, meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to sustainable winemaking practices. These are just some of the core tenants Tarapaca chooses to operate by. All of this has resulted in highly rated, and incredibly enjoyable wines...

Indigenous Peoples Day

It's Columbus Day Weekend (also Indigenous Peoples Day). We're celebrating with some wonderful Italian reds, some new to the store and some perennial favorites,

Merlot's Triumphant Return

This week, Dominique is bringing back Merlot. Her wineology class last week looked at this roller coaster grape, its perception in the wine world and why it's high time everyone start giving this varietal another chance after Paul Giamatti seemingly dug its grave in the 2004 film Sideways.

Summer's Last Hurrah

It's Labor Day weekend, summer's last hurrah! Before we transition to wines that are more fall-friendly, let's enjoy some discoveries from the wine classes held in July and August. Dave did classes on lighter reds and "pizza/burger" wines that featured wonderful wines that are good any time of year, but especially now.

Triple Point Pink Wines

There's still plenty of time to drink pink, and you can score another Triple Point home run with these wonderful wines!

Triple Point White Wines

August is upon us!

It's a month that's synonymous with sunshine, beaches, camping, picnics - lots of warm weather outdoor time. The wines that pair best with this kind of living are crisp, clean whites, best served cold.

There are several of them among the recently updated selection of the store's Triple Point wines, so I was eager to check them out!...

Tis the Season... For Rose

Happy Summer! Tis the season for ROSE, and there are so many delicious choices at Exit 9. At a recent wine education class, participants tried 5 different roses and compared and contrasted the different flavor profiles.

Here's a summary of those tastings. If you want to have some fun, consider purchasing them all (or a similar assortment of roses) and conducting your own tasting with friends...

Memorial Day Weekend '22

At last, the summer season is officially upon us with Memorial Day weekend. I was delighted to see a couple of new arrivals at Exit 9 that simply scream summer enjoyment.

They are the Lemonade Stand wines from Beringer Main & Vine.

Up and Down the Bunny Trail

Easter is another family occasion where wines can really shine alongside favorite dishes. Eggs are often a star on Easter tables, from deviled egg appetizers to quiches loaded with meats, veggies, and cheese. Main-course meat favorites are traditionally ham and lamb. All of these flavors make for some amazing wine pairings.

At the front of the store there's a display of selections specific to ham and lamb, and there are also wines (and spirits and canned cocktails) that will go with anything.

Triple Point Treasures

Exit 9 Club Card members know how nice it is to earn points on their purchases - points that apply toward gift cards for future purchases.

There are some wines that earn card members triple the points. That's especially nice! The current selection (located at the front of the store), includes some fun wines.

Highly Rated Refresh

Thank you, Wine Spectator!

Great news in a recent e-blast from this venerable publication: "A new study analyzed health data on nearly 500,000 U.K. residents and found that subjects who drank one to two glasses of red wine a day had a 10 to 17 percent lower risk of contracting COVID than non-drinkers. Subjects who drank white wine had a 7 to 8 percent lower risk if they consumed five glasses or less per week..."

When Light is Right

With the indulgences of the holidays behind us, January is often a time of cutting back - on sugar, on calories, and even on alcohol.

Fortunately, there are many delicious options that take all of these choices into consideration - and you'll find a display of them by the Customer Service desk at the front of the store...

Last-Minute Holiday Recommendations

Time's ticking, but we've got you covered.

Christmas Wines at Exit 9

We're just a couple of weeks away from Christmas! At Exit 9, you'll find treasures around every turn for anyone on your gift list (including yourself).

Turkey Wine that's Really Fine

The most important part of the wine that you serve for Thanksgiving (or any occasion) is that you like it!! That said, just like a special sauce, some wines can really enhance the taste of the food.

Tres, Tres Bon

Thanksgiving - that wonderful holiday that's all about food and family and friends and football - is just less than three weeks away. If you stress about what wines to pair with the variety of dishes that find their way to the table on Thanksgiving, let us help...

A Home Run of Verga La Storia Wines

When I saw the boxes and boxes of 1895 La Storia wines coming in last week, I knew we were in for a treat. Exit 9 has carried the Montepulciano in this line, and it is already very popular. It has been joined by two others - a Primitivo di Manduria, and a Toscano Rosso. I did a tasting of the three of them side by side, and all I can say is Delizioso!

Spooky Wines

Halloween is just over a week away. It's going to be a party weekend, and there are lots of wines - and spirits - with which to celebrate. At Exit 9 there's a fun selection around the witch with the weird green eyes in the front of the store....

Viva Dogalojo

It's Columbus Day weekend. My brother and sister-in-law are in Rome. A friend is going to Italy at the end of the month. No wonder I find myself spending more time in the wonderful Italian section of the store...

Reading Between the Vines

I often wonder what it is about wine that not only interests but excites me. As I was sipping the lush 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon from Brotherhood (rated Best Cab Sauv in NY) I came across this passage from the critic Terry Theise's book, Reading Between the Wines...

Bring on Fall!

It's apple season, and that means apple pie.

Walking around the store, I started thinking about all the possibilities for pairings with that most American of desserts.

So many wines came to mind that I thought it would be fun to ask my colleagues for their opinions to see if we were on the same page...

9-11 Remembrance

With the emotional commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the ups and downs of COVID, and the onset of fall, I'm in the mood for a BIG red wine.

Something deep. Something dark. Something soothing. Something velvety...

Belle Glos Seminar

It was a full house at the tasting of single-vineyard Pinot Noirs from Belle Glos on Thursday, August 26, and the wines did not disappoint...
