Highly Rated Refresh

Thank you, Wine Spectator!

Great news in a recent e-blast from this venerable publication: "A new study analyzed health data on nearly 500,000 U.K. residents and found that subjects who drank one to two glasses of red wine a day had a 10 to 17 percent lower risk of contracting COVID than non-drinkers. Subjects who drank white wine had a 7 to 8 percent lower risk if they consumed five glasses or less per week..."

I feel better already! If you're looking for some wonderful reds at great prices, head to the middle of the store and check out the Highly Rated and Values racks.

They've been recently reorganized, and a great find on the Values rack is the Cline farmhouse. For less than $12, this California red has a lovely label with a block-print design of a farmhouse stamped against a brown-paper background and the words, "trust in nature, trust yourself" on the front.

It turns out that the structure pictured is an old schoolhouse on Green String Farm in Petaluma that serves students seeking to learn Green String sustainable farming. Cool!

The message is wonderful, and I'm glad to say the wine is quite good, too. It's a no-nonsense dry red with lots of berry notes, complemented with a crispness and hint of spice that balance the wine.

It's a perfect mid-week, all-is-well wine that could pair with anything from nachos to stew to a ham sandwich. Simple, affordable, with goodness to spare all around.
