I took a closer look at the current selection of Triple Point wines, and I was very pleasantly surprised. There's something for everyone in the mix, from big, dry reds to crisp, lively whites to cider and even a sweet sparkler. Not only are you guaranteed some delicious choices, Club Card members earn three times the points on these offerings.
On the red side, there's the Long Path Red Blend from California, made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Mouvedre, and Petit Sirah. It's juicy and succulent and pairs beautifully with anything from steak to pepperoni pizza. There's an Italian Sangiovese from Campo di Marzo, made with grapes grown in the sunny south, in Puglia. It's bursting with sun-soaked dark cherry notes.
Another Italian red is the Intre from Natale Verga, a blend of Sangiovese, Nero d'Avolo, and Corvina that not only scored 90 points from James Suckling, but is Andy's Staff Pick! It's a lovely and lighter style every day red for any occasion - as is the Encore Pinot Noir from Monterey, California, which presents with bright cherry notes and a smooth finish.
Don't overlook the Spanish Esteban Martin, either, a perennial favorite in the store. It's a Garnacha/Syrah blend that holds its own when paired with pastas, cheeses, or even grilled cheese sandwiches.
On the white side, there's a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand called Silver Moki. It has a pretty fish on the label, a depiction of the popular Moki, a fish that apparently sparkles in the waters off the NZ coastline. This wine jumps out of the glass with citrus and tropical notes typifying Marlborough Sauv Blancs.
If a lighter white suits you, there's the Pinot Grigio from Florentina , which is delightfully straight forward and easy drinking, whether with roasted chicken, or a simple salad.
If Cider is your thing, you'll want to try this one - the Scandi Hard Apple Cider. Described as a Nordic recipe with a French influence, it's ripe with notes of yellow apples and honeycomb.
For a festive and fun occasion, pop the Blue Berry Spring! Get it nice and cold, make a mini fruit salad with bite-sized pieces of apple, strawberry, blackberry and blueberry, put the fruit in a champagne flute, and top with the wine. Make a toast to -as the name says- spring!Â
Three cheers to Triple Points!
