Whisky Advocate's Top 20 was revamped for the 2022 calendar year. Previously, the Top 20 was almost always a proverbial who's who of bottles that you either couldn't find, or would expect to pay 5-10x retail in order to get your hands on one.

This year, editors and writers at the industry's premier whiskey publication switched things up, releasing the Top 20 Most Exciting Whiskeys of 2022. The move resulted in a much better and more accessible list of products, and also helped spread the spotlight on young and ambitious producers who are churning out exemplary whiskeys.

Many of these bottles can be found with relative ease, especially here at Exit 9 Wine & Liquor Warehouse, New York's #1 whiskey destination! Below, we've assembled a collection of all the whiskeys from this year's Top 20 that can be had here at our store. We've highlighted a few of our personal favorites, and every available option is shown below those.

One of our personal favorite Single Barrel whiskey finds for 2022, Blue Note Juke Joint was a hit right off the rip here at Exit 9 Wine & Liquor Warehouse.

Julia Higgins of Whisky Advocate described it as having a "fruit-forward" nose, "evoking freeze-dried strawberries, strawberry Blow Pop, cherry cobbler, pumpkin pie, and black tea with honey. The palate is hot, but not to its detriment, and it's wonderfully creamy throughout. Chocolate-covered cherries are at the fore, joined by lemon-poppy seed muffin, fresh-squeezed lemon, grated ginger, brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal, and a hint of licorice. The finish is long, inviting you to take another sip."

A legitimately great bottle of bourbon, you won't want to miss out.

Another of our favorite brands earning the recognition they deserve. Bardstown Bourbon Co. has been producing some of the best bourbon in the country for themselves, and other producers throughout the bourbon landscape.

Described by Jeffery Lindenmuth as "not as adventurous as some of their experiments, but it is no less successful." Though it's true that Bardstown has produced more exciting experiments (Their Pierre Ferrand Cognac finished bourbon comes readily to mind), this stands toe-to-toe with many other limited release products from 2022.

After 22 months in Plantation rum barrels, Lindenmuth described it as offering "savory herbs balanced with caramel on the nose, flavors of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and red fruit before a finish with generous baking spices and leather."

Limited bottles remain of this one-time release, and when it's gone it's gone, so grab one today for yourself or for a holiday gift!

Barrell Craft Spirits has been a major player in the American whiskey category for years now, and recently they've been displaying improved standing as a blender and finisher of whiskeys.

Their Seagrass rye was a phenomenal step in the right direction to achieving this, and the Vantage bourbon seeks to expand on that. Vantage is a blend of straight bourbon whiskeys finished in Mizunara, French and Toasted American Oak barrels.

Ted Simmons of Whisky Advocate describes the nose as having "bake shop sweetness, with aromas of sugar cookie, nutty chocolate brownies, and Funfetti cake, plus earthy dried tobacco leaves and strawberry candies underneath." He goes on to say that "the palate delivers rich chocolate, Red Hots, and with water added, dried leaves and snickerdoodles. Big cinnamon spice on the finish ties this one up beautifully."

This year's Top 20 is such an encouraging step in the right direction for the world of whiskey. No longer are we reading a list of whiskeys we couldn't find in our wildest dreams; but are finally getting a list of whiskeys we should feel encouraged to seek out and try.
