On the Wine Side - NY Wines and Father's Day!

Fri, Jun 06, 25
For those of us who won't be going to Saratoga Racetrack to see the Belmont Stakes live, there's no reason to miss watching the last leg of the Triple Crown on TV from the comfort of our homes. Post time is 7 pm, so there's plenty of time to enjoy a good spread and good wines while you take a good look at the 8 horses in the race. And when the race is over, back to food and wines. Beats sitting in traffic!

Wines. It's a good occasion to drink NY, and Exit 9 has a fantastic selection. Riesling is a grape that grows really well across the state, producing delicious wines, and whether you like dry, semi-dry, or a sweeter style, Riesling is a wine that pairs beautifully with foods ranging from picnic-y fare to fancier feasts. Try a classic from Dr. Frank, a pioneer in the Finger Lakes, or explore the highly-rated Semi-Dry Riesling from Fox Run, or go with one from Whitecliff Vineyard, whose wines from the Hudson Valley have been converting sceptics for years. For reds, there's the lovely, big Red Blend from Old Tavern Farm, a working horse farm in Saratoga that is also a winery. Or go with something fun and no-frills, like the Pinot Noir from Brotherhood, America's Oldest Winery. It's light and bright and just right. If you're really celebrating, a bottle of sparkling is a must. Glenora makes a beautiful Brut that's very good and very affordable.

Celebrating with New York wines is always a win. The wines are really good, and supporting local goes a long way for everyone. For Father's day picnics or outings, there's so much to choose from! In addition to the New York wines, there are wines celebrating the Yankees and the Mets. Check out the fun bottles at the front of the store. If dad is a "steak and cigar" kind of guy, consider a powerhouse Cab. Our Fine Wine Room is full of them. The Duckhorn is a doozy for celebrating in style.

With so many choices, it's easy to feel overwhelmed (in the best way!) We're here to help so that on the wine side is always a great experience for you. Cheers!
